山梨県東部・富士五湖では、この地震のおよそ４分前にマグニチュード５．０の地震が起き、山梨県大月市や富士河口湖町、静岡県小山町それに神奈川県厚木市などで震度４の揺れを観測したほか、その後も体に感じる余震が相次ぎました。気象庁の永井章地震津波監視課長は「今回の震源地付近は、これまでもマグニチュード５から６程度の地震が起きるなど、地震活動が活発な地域で、去年３月の巨大地震との関連性はよく分からない」と述べたうえで「東海地域のひずみ計などの観測データに変化はなく、東海地震や富士山の火山活動と関連はないと考えている」と説明しました。
